Pets: the 3-day list
Published
The Be Ready checklist asks for pet food and bottled water. Keep 3 days of the food they already eat, extra water, and copies of their records with yours.
Water
Our suggestion is about 1 litre a day per dog (bigger dogs drink more) and 0.25 litres per cat or small pet. That’s our figure, not official advice. The calculator adds it to your household’s total. Supermarket bottles are fine, or there’s our pick of 20-litre jerry cans (Ad) if you’d rather store it in bulk.
Food
Whatever they already eat, no special brands. Keep 3 days of their usual food and use it like your own: eat it, then replace it.
Medicines
If your pet takes regular medicine, ask your vet about keeping a little extra in hand.
Records
Put copies of their vaccination records and their microchip number in the same zip wallet (Ad) as your own documents.
A bowl
A collapsible bowl (Ad) folds flat in the box. It’s useful if you have to go and stay with someone.
Warm and calm
Keep their usual bed and a blanket handy, and keep them inside in a storm. The cat will not help with any of this.
Everything’s on the babies and pets kit page and the checklist.
