What about war?

Updated

Be Ready is mainly about storms, floods and power cuts. It also mentions cyber attacks. It’s advice, not a warning.

What the government says

The campaign asks every household to be able to manage for a few days if the power, water or phones go off. That’s it. It doesn’t say anything is about to happen.

Why the list doesn’t change

Whatever stops the power or the water, the answer is the same: water, food, light, a radio, your medicines, and the people around you. The checklist covers it.

Where you’d hear official news

The government can send an Emergency Alert to mobile phones in an area, and the BBC carries official news on the radio. That’s why Be Ready asks for an FM radio, and why it’s worth writing down your local station’s frequency.
