Power cut
The lights go off and stay off.
If the houses around you are still lit, check your fuse box for a switch that has tripped.
Updated
Do now
- Report it, or check for updates, on 105. In Northern Ireland, call 03457 643643.
- Use torches, not candles.
- Keep the fridge and freezer shut.
- Switch off anything that could come back on by itself, like the oven or an iron. Leave one light switched on, so you know when the power's back.
- Put the radio on for local news, and save your phone battery for calls.
Check on
- Older neighbours, and anyone who lives alone.
- Anyone who relies on powered medical equipment.
Don't
Don't: use a barbecue, camping stove, or gas or paraffin heater indoors. They give off carbon monoxide.
Don't: use candles as your main light.
Don't: go near fallen power lines. Stay well away and call 105.
Call 999 if someone is in immediate danger.
