First aid kit and medicines

Be Ready asks for a first aid kit and a supply of everyone's regular medicines.

What you need

A first aid kit

Check it has a thermometer and eyewash. Most kits don't.

Everyone's regular medicines, plus a few spare

Order repeat prescriptions 5 working days before you need them.

What to do with it

For how to use it, see the St John Ambulance first aid advice. For questions about medicines, ask your pharmacist or GP, or call NHS 111.

What to look for

  • Waterproof plasters, bandages, sterile dressings and medical tape
  • Antiseptic, gloves and tweezers
  • A thermometer and eyewash. Most kits leave these out, so check.

What we'd skip

  • Anything sold as a "trauma" or "tactical" kit. A home kit is what you need.
