What to do, who to check on and what not to do, if one of these happens.

• Power cut

  The lights go off and stay off.

• Storm

  A storm is on the way and the Met Office has issued a warning.

• Flood

  There's a flood alert or flood warning for your area.

• Water off

  The taps run dry, or your water company says the water isn't safe to drink.

• Phones and internet down

  Your mobile, landline or internet stops working.

• Snowed in

  Snow and ice make the roads and pavements unsafe, so you'd rather stay put.
